have ya heard those new chinese democracy tracks? yeah, me too. the only one i kinda dig is “the blues” even though axl sounds like he’s doing a really bad aaron neville impersonation throughout half the song. i am half excited, half i dont give a shit regarding chinese democracy. actually i am beginning to be more half “dont give a shit.”
idolator has some info/questions on the random chinese democracy leaks

so, as of late i have been messing around with photography. i have always been really inspired by photos and i wanted to try my hand at it. i had some extra amazon money to spend so i went and purchased this camera. for those too lazy or dont care enough to click on that link, its a panasonic dmc lz7, 7.2 mp with 6x optical zoom. granted its not the top of the line but the specs are great and i figured i can take at least good if not great pics with it. since i know very little about the world of photography – see taking good photos – i was hoping one of you fine readers could point me in the right direction as i attempt to venture forth. any good sites to visit with tips and stuff?
taking a break from the bedhead series, here is neil young performing on the bbc in 1972 shortly after the release of harvest.

for some reason i find myself watching the most random programs on sunday mornings. most notably is the spike tv block of car/truck shows. i dont really understand why i watch these shows cause i never plan on rebuilding a 1932 jeep cj or adding some kind of awesome upgrades to my 2005 subaru outback and/or 05 hyundai elantra. for some reason i find all this shit quite fascinating. plus, i love the chick from xtreme 4×4, as seen below. am i the only one?

we are being kicked out of house for a few hours today, due to the fact that we are having an open house. yay fun! it sounded like a good idea at the time but when the day comes i really just want to lay around the house to chill and drink.

most of you have jobs that require the normal 9 – 5 attendance, but for the rest of us that dont fall into such a category day time tv leaves really something to be desired to say the least. actually, its down right depressing. i can only watch sportscenter so many times and i have seen just about every mythbusters and dirty jobs. so, when i tuned into the greg behrendt show one morning i was definitely pleasantly surprised. or maybe my standards are so low that i find his brand of talk show quite appealing. sure its kinda cheesy but he actually seems pretty cool and quite psyched to be attempting to make some kind of difference. so, if you have a chance to check him out you might not be that disappointed.
in other news, there is a semi private spoon show tomorrow evening in atlanta. where it is, i havent a clue? they gave away 25 free passes via their myspace page and of fuckin course i missed the boat!
its no secret that most of ryan adams best work is his unreleased stuff. i dont know why he wouldnt put stuff like “drunk and fucked up,” “gimme sunshine,” “like a whore,” etc, on to tape? it makes no damn sense at all!? so, here is part one of a five series set that someone has aptly entitled bedhead. its a collection of unreleased, covers and live stuff. i didnt know there were five cause the last time i looked there were only three. so, i praise the compiler of this compilation.

i have waited for more than a year for this day to arrive. of course i just didnt know it was going to be may 3, 2007. i speak, of course, of the leak of my most anticipated record of the past few years, jason isbell’s sirens of the ditch. apparently its been finished since before the release of the truckers last record but they decided to sit on it until after its release. that could all be internet created gossip but hey thats what i read – i think. anyway, i have yet to give it a proper listen but i will definitely have more than enough time tonite at work to delve into it.
here is jason performing the gorgeous “dress blues,” which is on sirens, at stubbs in august of 2006.
since 1988 there have only been two shows that i regret not attending. my biggest regret was my failure to attend, what turned to be out a monumental jeff buckley show at uncommon ground, in chicago, back in 94. i was sick, but not that sick, and was being my typical bitchy self when i feel a little under the weather. it would have taken me all of 3 minutes to get there but it was cold and snowing and like i said i am a little bitch when i am sick. here is a little info on that fateful evening.
my second regret, and this is fairly big one too, is that i missed what turned out to be the last replacements show, featured below, at taste of chicago in 91. i dont remember what kept me from attending but i am sure it was something as insignificant as a really awesome sega genesis marathon.

dont know if i mentioned but i somehow landed a new job, which i started a couple of weeks ago. its a cool gig although not particularly exciting – monitoring the wan for the army. the only real downfall is that i, again, work nights – 11 pm – 7 am. it is a grand time to study for my ccna. yeah, exciting shit, i know.
anyway, one band i used to absolutely love, and still do, is knoxville’s power pop maestro’s superdrag. sadly, they disbanded a few years ago. lead dragger, john davis, released a solo record last year but it failed to live up to the quality released by his former group. walking along side the footsteps of superdrag is another knoxville based group, tenderhooks. i have only listened to the first single, “kidstuff,” off their yet to be released, don coffey, jr, of superdrag fame, produced record vidalia, but its pretty damn good. if you dig cheap trick, big star, superdrag, etc then these guys and one gal are probably gonna scratch right where you been itchin.
check out their myspace page for all the gritty details including tour dates, which features a performance at bonaroo.
baby goes to 11 – superdrag
feeling like i do – superdrag
both of those tracks are off of their last real release, last call for vitriol. they just released a collection of home recordings and other goodies entitled changing tires on the road to ruin.
